Descriptions

Upper Michigan Lake Superior Waterfront Parcel For Sale - This parcel is located on the western sunset view side of the Point Abbaye Peninsula, in north-central Baraga County in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Point Abbaye Peninsula is a 12.3-mile-long peninsula that juts out into Lake Superior. This boreal ecosystem is bounded by Keweenaw Bay on the west and Huron Bay on the east. Considered a very special place by the Ojibwa who fished, hunted, and camped here for generations, it remained mostly untouched until the late 1800s. The Hebard and Thurberg Lumber Company leased the peninsula in 1877 and began harvesting its old growth forests, and carrying the logs to the nearby sawmills at Pequaming. Today the thickly wooded second-growth forests are managed for production of pulpwood, and the shoreline is dotted with fine private homes and cottages, and vacant land parcels. The northern end of the Peninsula has Copper Country State Forest lands and the County of Baraga has a beautiful park located at the rugged, rocky tip. It takes about a half-hour drive over the twisty road to get there, but the view from the rugged sandstone shelf there is worth the drive! There are hiking trails, two outhouses, and a small campground for overnight camping. You might be able to see The Huron Island Light flashing from the rocky freshwater archipelago located about seven miles beyond the end of the peninsula. These islands are named the Huron Islands in honor of the Hurons who once lived in the area - and are a national wildlife area. The ancient Lake Superior sea beds have created some sheer bluffs with high overlooks on both sides of the peninsula... And each side has its own special features. There are stunning sunset views on the west side, clear-day views of the Keweenaw Peninsula to the north, and those views of the Huron Islands and Huron Mountains from the east side. Lake Superior fishing for salmon, whitefish and lake trout abounds on either side! Another local passtime here is nature photography, and you'll have opportunities for that here year round! Whitetail deer, Black bear, Coyote, and Bald eagle sightings are common. There is "walk-in" access for hunting and trapping from the eastern and southern borders of this parcel, into thousands of acres of Corporate CFA Lands and Copper County State Forest Lands. The peninsula creates two bays - the Keweenaw Bay, a larger bay on its western side and the Huron Bay, a narrower bay on its eastern side. The peninsula tempers the winds, creating these calmer, protected water bodies. Anglers do well trolling for Walleye, Perch, Steelhead, and Smallmouth bass on either side of Point Abbaye. The outer bays give good catches of Lake trout and Coaster browns, and Spring and Fall catches of Salmon are available. Pike are in the Huron Bay's southern end, and Spring-Fall Salmon are caught. The parcel has mature trees and a shoreline made up of larger sandstone rocks and course sand. Come and experience all your favorite Upper Peninsula outdoor activities from this terrific property!
